Homage compresses and serves images automatically — upload high-quality originals and let the theme handle delivery.

Upload an image

  1. Open the theme editor and select a section or block with an image field.
  2. Click Select image > Upload, or pick from your library.
  3. Click Save.

You can also upload from Content > Files in admin. Supported formats: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, HEIC. Max 20 MB and 25 megapixels per file.

Set a focal point

When cropping matters:

  1. Click Edit on the image.
  2. Click Add focal point and place the pin on the important area.
  3. Click Done.

The focal point stays in frame when the image is cropped on different screen sizes.

Use free stock photos

In any image picker, click Explore free images to browse Shopify Burst. Images are royalty-free.

Banners and backgrounds

Avoid baking text into banner images — add copy with theme text fields so it stays readable on all screens. Wide images crop on tall phones; tall images crop on wide desktops. Set a focal point on the subject.

Recommended widths: 1600–2400 px for full-width banners, 640–800 px for mobile-specific banners. See What is the recommended image size for a banner?
