Accessibility

Practical steps to keep your Homage store usable for everyone.

Last updated About 8 hours ago

Homage ships with keyboard support, semantic headings, and sensible defaults. Your content and color choices still matter.

Check color contrast

In Theme settings > Colors, aim for:

  • 4.5:1 contrast between body text and its background
  • 3:1 for large headings (24 px+) and icons

Test combinations at contrast-ratio.com. Use banner overlay colors when text sits on photography.

Write clear text and headings

  • Set body font size to at least 16 px in Theme settings > Fonts.
  • Use heading blocks in order — don't skip levels for styling.
  • Underline or otherwise distinguish links from body text.

Add alt text

For theme images: open the image in the editor, click Edit, and enter descriptive alt text.

For products: add alt text per image in Products > Media. Describe what matters — material, color, context — not "product image".

Be careful with motion

  • Avoid autoplay slideshows when possible.
  • If autoplay is on, keep Show navigation enabled so users can pause.
  • Mute autoplay videos (default in Homage video settings).

Other settings

Slideshow and video options are in Slideshow control settings and Video settings. Shopify's accessibility overview: help.shopify.com/manual/online-store/themes/customizing-themes/accessibility.
