Search and discovery features

Search in Homage has three parts: the search icon in the navigation, the overlay that opens when it's clicked, and the results page for full searches. Here's where each is configured.

The search icon

The icon lives in the Navigation section — toggle it with Show search, and on mobile choose which side it sits on under Mobile layout.

The search overlay

Clicking the icon opens the search overlay, which is its own section: in the theme editor, look for the Overlay group and select Predictive search. As visitors type, it suggests matching products, collections, pages, and blog posts right in the overlay.

A few things you can do there:

• Set the placeholder text in the empty search field.
• Show search suggestions — a menu of links visitors see before they've typed anything.
• Feature collections in the overlay, with their own heading and a slideshow or grid layout.
• Toggle product vendors and prices in the results, and set how many results appear.

📝 Note: Predictive suggestions require the free Shopify Search & Discovery app and are available on the Shopify, Advanced, and Plus plans. Without them, the overlay still works — visitors just go straight to the results page.

The search results page

Submitting a search leads to the results page, powered by the Search results section — it has its own grid, filtering, and sorting options similar to collection pages.

Improving search results

What search actually returns — synonyms, filters, product boosts, related products — is managed in the Search & Discovery app, not the theme. A few quick wins:

• Add synonym groups so "sofa" also finds "couch".
• Set up filters for the results page and collection pages (see Storefront filtering).
• Shopify's search also handles typos and singular/plural matching automatically in most languages.
