Intro to blocks

Add and arrange content inside a section — text, images, products, banners, and more.

Last updated About 7 hours ago

Blocks live inside sections. Click a section in the theme editor and you'll see its blocks listed below the section settings. Not every section uses blocks (a standalone Banner section is all settings, no blocks), but Multicolumn, Slideshow, Page content, Product information, and many others do.

Add a block

  1. Click the section that should contain the block.
  2. Click Add block.
  3. Choose a block type and fill in its settings.
  4. Click Save.

Each section has a maximum number of blocks. When you hit the limit, the Add block button greys out — remove or hide an existing block to make room.

Drag blocks to reorder them within the section.

Header blocks are now section settings

In older theme versions, pieces of the header — logo, menu, cart icon, search, language selector — were added as blocks inside a Header section. In Homage v1.1 they're built into the Navigation and Announcement bar sections instead, with matching settings in Theme settings > Logo.

If you're following an older guide that says "add a Logo block" or "add a Hamburger menu block," use Navigation and Announcement bar instead. Those block articles are retired.

Newer block types worth knowing

Shared block settings

Many blocks include Visibility settings at the bottom — same options as sections. See Visibility settings. Blocks inside grid sections may also have layout overrides; see Layout settings.

Other settings

For block-specific walkthroughs, search the Blocks collection — Banner, Rich text, Video, Variant selector, Buy buttons, and others each have dedicated articles. Section-level context (padding, width, color scheme) is covered in Intro to sections.
