Slideshow control settings

Last updated 4 months ago

Slideshow controls set the default behavior and appearance for every slideshow across your store — things like autoplay, animation speed, transition style, navigation, and pagination. Configure them once to create a consistent look and feel, while still allowing section- or block-level overrides when needed.

⚠️ Important: Changes here apply store-wide by default. Choose settings that balance brand style with usability (e.g., sensible timings, clear controls, and reduced motion options for accessibility).

Slideshow control settings

This group provides options to tune slideshow features—such as animation effects, speed, navigation controls, pagination styles, and the ability to preview upcoming slides. Tweaking these options lets you craft slideshows that are as engaging, dynamic, or subtle as your needs require.

Animation style

The animation style determines how each slide transitions to the next, influencing the overall motion and feel of all slideshows.

  1. Default

    1. Uses the theme’s standard sliding animation between slides.

  2. Fade

    1. Switches slides with a gentle fading effect for a softer visual transition.

Default: default

Animation speed

Animation speed determines how quickly or slowly slides transition. This setting is important for pacing and can have an impact on both visual appeal and user comfort.

  1. Values range from 0.1 to 5 seconds.

  2. Adjustments occur in 0.1 second increments.

Default: 0.8 seconds

Autoplay delay

Autoplay delay controls how long each slide stays visible before progressing to the next. This setting only applies if autoplay is enabled, and helps set the rhythm for your slideshows.

  1. Values range from 0 to 10 seconds.

  2. Adjustments are made in 1 second increments.

Default: 4 seconds

Autoplay slideshow

Autoplay slideshow toggles whether slideshows advance automatically or wait for user interaction, which can affect presentation style and engagement.

Default: off

Loop slides

Loop slides enables or disables continuous looping. When on, reaching the end of the slideshow sends users seamlessly back to the start.

Default: off

Pagination style

Pagination style chooses the type of indicator displayed for slide position within the slideshow. This helps users understand their location and provides feedback as they move through the content.

  1. Dynamic

    1. Responds to viewing context and changes style as needed.

  2. Fraction

    1. Displays the active slide and the total number of slides, such as 2/4.

  3. Progress bar

    1. Shows a bar that fills as users move through slides.

  4. Scrollbar

    1. Offers a draggable navigation bar for direct control.

Default: dynamic

Show navigation

Show navigation toggles visibility of manual navigation elements—such as arrows or next/previous controls—on all slideshows. These controls are vital for manual browsing and accessibility.

Default: on

Show pagination

Show pagination determines whether pagination elements—such as dots, progress bars, or slide numbers—are visible, enhancing users’ understanding of their position within the slideshow.

Usage notes

Slideshow control settings define the default behavior for every slideshow in your theme. You can still override them in specific sections or blocks for special cases.

  1. Use both navigation and pagination

    1. Showing next/prev controls and dots helps users orient and move through long carousels.

  2. Design specifically for mobile

    1. Consider shorter animation durations, adjusted control placement, and simplified previews — space and expectations differ from desktop.

  3. Test across devices

    1. Check interaction, readability, and performance on multiple screen sizes to ensure smooth, accessible experiences.

💡 Tip: Review slideshows on desktop and mobile after any change to confirm that navigation, timing, and preview cues improve—not hinder—usability.

📝 Note: Thoughtful choices for animation, navigation, and pagination support accessibility and performance. Tune transitions, control placement, and preview visibility to create a user-friendly journey across all slideshows.
