Ways to manage your blog more efficiently
With advanced publishing, you can manage your blog more efficiently by utilizing these key tools:
Create a custom template to style your blog or individual posts in a specific way.
Set a specific publishing date for each post.
Publish or unpublish multiple posts at once using a bulk action.
Invite customers to subscribe to your blog so they will receive your updates.
Create a new blog template
Customizing the layout for all posts in a blog helps ensure a consistent and visually appealing experience. For example, you may want to use a custom template for a blog that features a lot of images.
In your admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
Find your theme, click the … button, and select Edit code.
In the Templates folder, click Add a new template.
In the dialog:
Select blog from the dropdown menu.
Choose either a JSON or liquid template, depending on your theme’s structure.
Enter a descriptive name for your template in the File name field.
Click Create template.
Use the online code editor to customize your template’s layout and style.
Click Save.
💡 Tip: If you’re unsure which format to use, review the existing blog templates in your Templates folder.
🚧 Caution: Creating or editing blog templates involves working with code. If you’re not comfortable editing code, consider hiring an expert.
Apply a template to a blog
Once you have created a custom blog template, you can assign it to your blog so all posts in that blog inherit your desired style.
In your admin, go to Online Store > Blog Posts.
Click Manage blogs.
Select the blog you want to update.
Choose your preferred template from the Template dropdown.
Click Save.
Create a blog post template
Designing unique templates for individual posts allows you to feature interviews, stories, or content-heavy posts in a distinct layout.
In your admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
Find your theme, click the … button, then select Edit code.
In the Templates folder, click Add a new template.
In the dialog:
Select article from the dropdown menu.
Choose either a JSON or liquid template format.
Enter a name for your template in the File name field.
Click Create template.
Customize the template as needed with the code editor.
Click Save.
💡 Tip: Before creating a new template, review your current article templates to decide whether JSON or liquid is used.
🚧 Caution: Editing or building blog post templates requires coding skills. If you’re not comfortable, seek help from a professional.
Apply a template to a blog post
Assign unique templates to individual blog posts for even greater design flexibility.
In your admin, go to Online Store > Blog Posts.
Click the blog post you want to edit.
Select your template from the Template dropdown.
Click Save.
Set a specific publish date for a blog post
Scheduling your blog posts guarantees your content is published exactly when you want. You can even backdate posts as needed.
In your admin, go to Online Store > Blog Posts.
On the Blog posts page, click the post you want to schedule.
Click Set visibility date.
Choose your desired publishing date and time.
Click Save.

Publish blog posts in bulk
You can save time by publishing multiple blog posts at once when you have several posts ready to go.
In your admin, go to Online Store > Blog Posts.
On the Blog posts page, check the posts you want to publish.
Click Actions.
Select Publish selected blog posts.
Unpublish blog posts in bulk
If you need to hide several posts without deleting them, you can quickly unpublish multiple posts at once.
In your admin, go to Online Store > Blog Posts.
On the Blog posts page, check the posts you want to unpublish.
Click Actions.
Choose Unpublish selected blog posts.
Allow customers to subscribe with FeedBurner
FeedBurner is a third-party subscription service. If you previously set up FeedBurner with your blog, it will still work. However, new blogs cannot be connected to FeedBurner.
